Alsou Safina Tenisheva was born in the Russian region of Tatarstan, in Bugulma, on June 27, 1983. Alsou means "the rose water" in the Tartar language. Like most people in the Soviet Union, Alsou grew up in poverty with her two brothers, Marat and Renard. In fact, until the age of 8, she lived with her grandparents in Siberia.
When you think of Russian entertainers, you probably conjure up images of the sexy vixens of t.A.T.u. But the boys on the panel are all about substance. Alsou has been in this business since 1999, and she's even at the point where she's writing her own songs.
In Russia, this pop star is as famous as anyone can get in the country. Following the hit song "Zimniy Son," she found success with Enrique Iglesias, in the duet "You're My No. 1," as well as the piece "Before You Love Me," from her 2001 album Alsou.
