Biography:
From the age of 16, Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp has walked down the runways of fashion designers, graced the covers of numerous magazines, and today she sets the pace for the Indy Racing League.
On May 4, 2001, Elaine was announced as the Pace Car driver for the 85th running of the Indianapolis 500, making her the first woman to pace the world's largest single-day sporting event. She has been an enthusiastic fan of open-wheel racing since her move to Indiana, and is now the official spokesperson for the Indy Racing League in conjunction with her pace car duties.
After being discovered in her hometown of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, Elaine's first photo shoot was for Seventeen Magazine. It was a simple 2"x 3" photo that launched her modeling career into super stardom. Throughout the industry, she has been known for her all-American, girl-next-door beauty. She has graced the covers of dozens of magazines (Vogue, Elle, and Cosmopolitan), sauntered down runways around the world, and has worked with top photographers such as Irving Penn, Herb Ritts, Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindberg, Steven Meisel, and Bruce Weber.
Recently, Elaine has been seen in advertisements for Victoria Secret, Calvin Klein, Loreal, Revlon, and continues her campaigns for Ocean Fragrance and Ralph Lauren, as well as her Pantene "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" commercial.
In 1991, Elaine was hired by photographer Wayne Maser to appear on John Mellencamp's Whenever We Wanted album cover. It was there that Elaine and John first met, and ten weeks later were engaged. Elaine now lives with her husband and two children in Indiana.
