SportsHollywood: You're learning how to drive a stick shift for this race. How's it going?
DONOVAN: I've been practicing a lot in my own car. It's an automatic, but I pretend I'm shifting, anyway. I pretend to shift a lot when I'm sitting alone at home watching TV, too. I've gotten my couch up to a hundred and thirty.
Elisa Donovan first garnered the attention of filmgoers when she co-starred as the uppity, completely misguided slave to fashion, Amber, opposite Alicia Silverstone in the feature film "Clueless." She then reprised the role in the television series.
Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and raised in Northport, Long Island, Donovan began acting at the age of 7 and became engrossed with New York theatre. During high school, she appeared in a play about AIDS called "Safe" at The Little Theatre in Long Island. This led to her first film role in "Risk," an independent film loosely based on the play.
After graduating from high school, Donovan studied at the prestigious Michael Chechov acting studio and at the Eugene Lang College at the New School for Social Research, where she studied classical and dramatic literature, writing and acting. Some of her theatre credits during this time include the Off-Broadway productions "The Baby" and "Mad Love" and the Off-Off-Broadway productions "Mad Forest," "Dark Hours," "Chamber Music" and "Treading the Boards."
In 1994, Donovan moved to Los Angeles to pursue film and television work. Shortly after arriving, she landed a recurring role in the series "Blossom," which led to her being cast in "Clueless." More recently, she starred in the E! original movie "Best Actress," guest-starred on "Just Shoot Me" and "Jack & Jill," and had a recurring role on "Beverly Hills, 90210."
On the big screen, Donovan most recently appeared in "A Night at the Roxbury," starring "Saturday Night Live" regulars Chris Kattan and Will Farrell, playing Cambi, a fortune-hunting model who mistakes them to be ultra rich. She will be seen in the upcoming independent feature "Save Me a Seat" and appeared in "Powder Burns."
In addition to acting, Donovan is committed to supporting charities and organizations that promote education, environmental and health awareness issues.
Donovan currently resides in Los Angeles, Calif., where she studies acting with Larry Moss.
