Liya Kebede was born in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on January 3, 1980. She grew up in a comfortable middle-class family, the only girl among four boys. Growing up in such an environment, Liya developed few girly traits, and exhibited little interest in fashion other than a Naomi Campbell poster in her room.
Liya could very well be the woman to revolutionize the perception of beauty in the cookie-cutter fashion world. In addition to being one of the few black supermodels out there, she is sexy, elegant and arrestingly ambitious.
Tall and slender, Liya Kebede turned few heads in her native Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the full-figured woman rules. Nonetheless, she was determined to break barriers and shatter the stale perceptions of beauty, and traveled the world to do so. What ensued was a Cinderella story of the highest caliber.
