The critics love her, the fans love her, and she has since released three more records. She's not about to break sales records, but in the music industry she's a virtual goddess.
Liz Phair came out of the underground rock movement just as it was gaining momentum and was therefore able to write the kind of music the world was waiting for. Her sound has nothing to do with the teenyboppers du jour and we're very grateful for that. Angry feminist guitar riffs beat sugar-coated bubblegum pop any day.
Elizabeth Clark Phair was born on April 17th, 1967 in New Haven, Connecticut. Shortly after her birth, she was adopted by Dr. John and Nancy Phair, who already had an adopted son, Philip, and soon the family settled in the prosperous Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Illinois, where Dr. Phair took a position at Northwestern Hospital. When she was 7, Liz moved to England with her family for one year, where her father took a sabbatical.
